The JOC Intermodal Savings Indices (ISI) measure the average differential between rates for US intermodal rail and truckload service — both spot and contract — across 117 lanes by sending estimates to third-party logistics providers (3PLs) and shippers to review. The estimates include margins and fuel but exclude accessorial charges such as detention, demurrage (storage fees), excessive per diem, lumper fees and other fees.
