US PLANS BRIEFING ON FISHING BAN

A top State Department official said he will meet with representatives of Japan, South Korea, China and Poland about a possible voluntary agreement to ban fishing in an area of the Bering Sea that scientists fear is being overfished.

Edward Wolfe, ambassador of oceans and fisheries, said he will brief the four nations this week on last week's U.S.-Soviet fishing talks that included discussion of a moratorium on fishing in the Bering Sea's doughnut hole.
