Post-Sandy Truck Rule Exemption Expires

WASHINGTON — An exemption to certain federal safety rules for truck drivers and trucking companies delivering aid to victims of Hurricane Sandy expired on Nov. 27.

The exemption, put in place Oct. 29, eased hours-of-service rules for truck drivers hauling emergency supplies in an area stretching from Maine to West Virginia.

Carriers delivering relief now must comply with all driver qualification, HOS and maintenance rules, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration said.

The HOS exemption still holds for utility service trucks, the FMCSA said.
