A review board unanimously approved a Canaveral Port Authority harbor deepening feasibility study to be submitted to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The project would expand the 400-foot-wide port channel by 100 feet and deepen it by 2 feet along its 3 1/2-mile length.
The Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District is currently submitting letters to government agencies requesting a 30-day review of the report of the chief of engineers, including the Canaveral study, and the report of the district engineer.
The project is pending federal authorization in the next Water Resource Development Act.
Construction is expected to begin in July 2013 and finish in the fall of 2014.
