8,800-TEU Ship Calls NY Port in New Service

The first ship in a new G6 Alliance service linking Asia and the U.S. East Coast via the Suez Canal called at Global Terminal in Bayonne, N.Y.

The Seattle Express is operated by Hapag-Lloyd, a participant in the G6 along with APL, Hyundai Merchant Marine, MOL, NYK Line and Orient Overseas Container Line. The G6 was formed in a merger of the New World and Grand alliances.

The ship is part of the CEC (China East Coast Express Service), which uses 11 ships on a rotation of Hong Kong, Shekou, Yantian, Singapore, New York, Savannah, Charleston, Norfolk, Jeddah, Singapore, Cai Mep and Hong Kong.

Global, which is seaward of the Bayonne Bridge, has no height restrictions for container ships.
