ILA-USMX Agreement: How Did We Get Here?

After almost a year of on-and-off bargaining and threatened strikes, the International Longshoremen’s Association and United States Maritime Alliance have agreed on a six-year master contract. ILA members will vote on the contract April 9.

The key to the contract was a supplemental local contract covering work rules, staffing and productivity at the Port of New York and New Jersey. The New York-New Jersey agreement paved the way for approval of the coastwide contract March 13.
