DOW CHEMICAL CO. (Midland, Mich.) - David T. Buzzelli, president and chief executive officer of Dow Chemical Canada Inc., was appointed to the newly created post of vice presidentand corporate director of Environment, Health and Safety.

Dow president and chief executive Frank Popoff said: "We have seen a dramatic increase in the amount of management time being invested worldwide in protection of the environment. How we address the environment will have an enormous impact on our future success."In creating this new position, we further signify Dow's global commitment to the environment," he said. "(Mr. Buzzelli's) aim will be to fully integrate environmental concerns into all of our business and operations decisions."

The organization reporting to Mr. Buzzelli will include Health and Environmental Sciences, Corporate Medical and Corporate Safety, Environmental Affairs and Security and Loss Prevention.

Mr. Buzzelli graduated from the University of Minnesota with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering in 1964. After earning a master's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Delaware in 1965, he joined Dow in Midland and held several process engineering positions before becoming technical director of the Michigan Division Process Development group in 1976.

In 1980, after holding various positions in Agricultural Chemicals production, he became manager of Agricultural Products, Health and Environmental Services in the Michigan Division.

In 1984, he was appointed director of Government and Public Affairs for Dow. He was appointed president and chief executive officer for Dow Chemical Canada Inc. in 1986.

ICI AMERICAS INC. (Wilmington, Del.) - Peter Cloud was appointed general manager for ICI Polymer Additives. He replaces Douglas Rumaner, who was promoted to general manager for ICI's worldwide surfactants business.

Mr. Cloud was most recently general manager for the U.S. operations of LNP, a unit of ICI Advanced Materials, Engineering Plastics. He joined LNP in 1969.
