PANEL CLEARS WAL-MART UNIT

A Mexican export commission has cleared Wal-Mart Stores Inc.'s subsidiary in Mexico of wrongdoing in a case brought by a Mexican exporter against the U.S. retailing giant. But the panel held that Wal-Mart still should pay the Mexican exporter.

In a Monday decision in the federal register Diario Oficial, the commission for the Protection of Foreign Commerce said Wal-Mart de Mexico S.A. could not be held responsible in Mexico for alleged non-payment of $101,250 for a 1994 shipment of shoes. But it ruled that Mexican company Comexpo S.A. should be paid for a shipment of $101,250, which was part of a $700,000 order by Wal-Mart and Hutcheson Wholesale Shoe imported through St. Louis Fashion Group.
