NS MAKES CHANGES IN SENIOR MANAGEMENT

Norfolk Southern Corp. is reorganizing its senior management ranks by appointing another vice chairman and naming four senior executives to new positions in the marketing department.

D. Henry Watts, who had been executive vice president of marketing, was elected vice chairman of the company by its board of directors.Mr. Watts, 63, has 44 years of experience with NS, including nine years' service in his former position. John R. Turbyfill is the other NS vice chairman.

Moving into Mr. Watts' former position is L.I. (Ike) Prillaman, formerly vice president of properties.

Mr. Prillaman, whose background is in auditing and accounting, had been vice president of properties since 1992. He has 25 years' experience with NS and its predecessor companies.

No successor has been named to Mr. Prillaman, who had been responsible for functions such as developing the company's land holdings and its industrial development program.

William B. Bales, a 32-year NS veteran, moved from vice president of coal marketing to senior vice president of international marketing. He reports to Mr. Prillaman.

Taking Mr. Bales' post in coal marketing is J.W. (Bill) Fox Jr., the railroad's former assistant vice president of sales and service in the coal department.

Mr. Fox's former position also is to be filled.

Thomas J. Golian, who had been executive assistant to chairman David Goode, was promoted to vice president and will continue to report to Mr. Goode. He has 44 years of rail industry experience.

All of the changes become effective Oct. 1.
