Desperate trans-Pacific carriers to push steep rate hikes

Demonstrating just how desperate carriers are to increase freight rates in a market plagued by overcapacity, the Transpacific Stabilization Agreement Friday announced the intention of lines in the eastbound Pacific to set a minimum rate of “at least $950 per 40-foot container to the West Coast,” effective Dec. 1.
