The decline in fuel prices from the record highs set during the spring has prompted carriers belonging to the Trans-Atlantic Conference Agreement to reduce their bunker fuel adjustment factor by 19 percent.

The new charges for traffic between north Europe and U.S. Atlantic/Gulf ports are $160 per TEU, down from $198; $320 for 40-foot containers, down from $396; and $16 by weight and measure for other freight, compared to $20 in the previous 30-day period.

For Pacific Coast ports, the new rates are $240 per TEU, down from $297; $480 per FEU, down from $594; and $24 for other freight, compared to the previous $30.

The new rates take effect Aug. 16 and will stay in place through at least Sept. 15.
