A.J. “Pete” Reixach Jr., executive Port Director and CEO of Port Freeport, Texas, was chosen chairman-elect of the American Association of Port Authorities, a not-for-profit group representing the interests of Western Hemisphere seaports.
Reixach will be installed as chairman for a one-year term on the final day of AAPA’s 99th annual convention, to be held Sept. 19-23 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Reixach will assume the chairmanship from Michael A. Leone, port director of the Massachusetts Port Authority.
Reixach has served as Port Freeport’s executive port director since 1988. Prior to joining Port Freeport, he was Houston-based vice president and general manager for F.A. Voight, Inc., a Netherlands-based shipping company.
“These are critical times for the maritime industry on national and international fronts,” Reixach said in a statement. “I am honored to have been chosen by my peers to lead AAPA as we meet challenges related to issues ranging from infrastructure funding to port security to sustainability. By working collaboratively in interfacing with legislative leaders and in sharing of industry best practices, the ports of the Western Hemisphere can and will ensure ongoing enhancement of our vital role in the global economy.”
