PORT AUTHORITY OF NEW YORK & NEW JERSEY (New York) - Charles Maikish was named director of the Port Authority's World Trade Department.

He formerly was assistant director of the agency's World Trade and Economic Development Department. That department was divided into separate World Trade and Regional Development departments in January.Mr. Maikish will be responsible for the management of the World Trade Center and will oversee the complex's capital redevelopment, lease agreements, finance, international trade relations and other business development services.

Mr. Maikish joined the Port Authority in 1968 as a design engineer for the construction of the World Trade Center. In 1974, he obtained his doctorate in law and began to represent the agency as an attorney.

In 1985, he was appointed director of the Office of Ferry Transportation, where he oversaw the return of trans-Hudson ferry service between Hoboken and lower Manhattan.
