Mack to head Teamsters port unit

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters has appointed Chuck Mack to the post of Port Division director.

Mack currently serves as secretary-treasurer and principal officer of Oakland based Local 70, president of the Teamsters Joint Council 7 covering Northern California, and vice president of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters representing the Western Region.

"Chuck Mack knows the importance of organizing," said Teamsters President James Hoffa. "By naming him to head our Port Division, we are reaffirming our commitment to organize port drivers throughout the United States and Canada."

The Port Division monitors the economic impact of federal and port activities on current port Teamster members and assists local unions in expanding Teamster power in our ports.

The division is currently working with anti-trust lawyers to develop a plan to organize 50,000 harbor truck drivers.

"Our port trucking operations are a disaster, the weak link, the Achilles heel of the global economy," said Mack in a statement. "I look forward to working with the waterfront unions and industry leaders to make port trucking dependable, efficient and profitable, and to bring justice and sustainable wages to the port drivers."
