Horizon issues hurricane status report

Horizon Lines said Hurricane Isabel was having some effect on ships in its U.S. mainland to Puerto Rico trade.

The carrier made note of several ships in a status report released Thursday:

-- Horizon Producer arrived in San Juan Thursday morning, and is currently discharging loads. The ship sailed further east than expected due to heavy seas and large swells, and will sail for Jacksonville tonight at 7p.m.

-- Horizon Hawaii sailed from San Juan on Monday for Elizabeth. The vessel will be sailing behind the anticipated route of Hurricane Isabel as she moves up the East Coast.

-- Horizon Discovery will sail from Jacksonville Thursday at 8 p.m., with anticipated arrival in San Juan on Friday.

-- Horizon Crusader sailed from San Juan for Jacksonville on Sunday night, with arrival slated for Thursday.

-- Horizon Challenger sailed from San Juan on Monday, and is expected to arrive in Houston on time Friday.

"The priority is the safety of our people at sea. Next, we want to ensure that our customers can depend on us to seek out the best possible routes to get their cargo to market," said John V. Keenan, Horizon's executive vice president, in the report.
