Packet switching network

Requests to participate should be sent to address below. The Northern Ireland Health and Personal Social Services (NIHPSS) requires a private X.25 packet switching network. The initial procurement relates to a basic X.25 infrastructure network that provides a basis for future growth and immediately allows ICL DRS 250 microcomputers in 22 offices throughout Northern Ireland to communicate with an ICL 2966 in Belfast. Suppliers must be commited to OSI and to continued development of their products in respect.

A network management system will be required and may form part of this initial procurement. Technical support will be required. Hardware maintenance must be provided from an engineering base situated in Northern Ireland and staffed by not fewer than three full-time engineers. Suppliers must be able to provide on-site assistance during the period of implementation. The network eventually will replace or augment the existing NIHPSS case DCX multiplexor network. This is currently installed on 50 sites and supports over 1,200 terminals. The medium-term projected role for X.25 is as the wide area networking spine with DCX, X.25 PAD and LAN feeder systems on individual sites.

The projected five-year local and wide area data communications demand is for the support of several thousand terminals and PCs, together with over 60 DEC, MDIS, ICL and Wang hosts. Very little traffic is projected to bodies outside the NIHPSS. Such traffic is projected to be routed via British Telcom's packet switch stream service. Suppliers are also required to make proposals in respect of the projected five-year demand for X.25 networks for the NIHPSS. The contract, which may be awarded, will be considered as establishing a precedent for all such networks in NIHPSS and future networks may be purchased on the basis of single tender contracts.

Place of delivery: various locations in Northern Ireland. Time limit for delivery: delivery of the initial network by February 1989. No special legal form required but each supplier will be required to be jointly and severally liable under the contract. Final date for the dispatch of invitations to tender: April 15, 1988.

Information required: unless evidence as to technical capability and

financial standing has already been provided, a supplier's request to participate should include a copy of his latest annual report and account and confirmation that he is a qualified supplier in his own country. Criteria for the award of contract will be stated in the invitation to tender. It should be noted that this advertisement relates to the issue of an operational requirement. An invitation to tender will be issued subsequently to any supplier who has been short-listed for this purpose on the basis of his response to the operational requirement and completion of satisfactory discussion and demonstrations/benchmarks.
