Feeder lines upgrade India-Mideast network

Simatech Shipping and X-Press Feeders have expanded their intra-Asia feeder network by introducing a container service between western India and Jebel Ali, a major transshipment hub in the Middle East.

The Gulf-India Express (GIX) service offers a weekly rotation of Jebel Ali, United Arab Emirates; Mundra and Nhava Sheva (Jawaharlal Nehru), India; and back to Jebel Ali.

The joint loop is served by two vessels, with Simatech providing the 2,732-TEU ELB Wolf and X-Press Feeders contributing the 3,316-TEU APL Sharjah.

Singapore-based Orient Express Lines has a slot charter arrangement in the new service.

The GIX complements several weekly services that the three feeder lines jointly provide on the same route, which include the India Gulf X-Press and the Nhava Sheva Muscat Gulf X-Press.

Earlier this year, Simatech launched a feeder service between India’s Vallarpadam Transshipment Terminal and Jebel Ali.
