Rickmers-Linie Charters Vessel for Middle East, India Fleet

Rickmers Chennai is the latest addition to the Middle East/India service of Rickmers-Linie.

Rickmers-Linie has decided to charter the 19,100 deadweight ton, 2012-built Pacific Winter.

The vessel is a sister ship of the 2011-built Baltic Winter, which Rickmers originally chartered in December 2011. The shipping line will also extend the existing charter on the Baltic Winter.

Both vessels will now be given Rickmers names. They will also feature the Rickmers-Linie logo on their hulls and Rickmers funnel colors. Pacific Winter will become Rickmers Chennai, while Baltic Winter will be renamed Rickmers Dubai. Rickmers Chennai will begin her maiden voyage in mid-April from Singapore to Europe via India and the Middle East.

Compared with the 30,000-dwt. vessels used on Rickmers’ Round-The-World Pearl String Service, these two ships are smaller, giving them more flexibility, the company said, because they can call at ports where water depth, turning circles and berth lengths may be more restricted. Each vessel has two 400 metric ton cranes that can be twinned to lift 800 metric tons, complemented by a 120 metric ton crane further forward.
