Evergreen Line has confirmed that it is in negotiations with the CKYH Alliance to form a new alliance, but said it is too early to say whether the Taiwanese carrier will become a member of the alliance.
Other carriers in CKYH had said previously that Evergreen had been approached about joining the alliance. CKYH members are Cosco, “K” Line, Yang Ming and Hanjin.
“Evergreen is continually reviewing its operational options to better serve customers and increase efficiency of its vessel utilization,” an Evergreen spokesperson said. “To this end, we are in negotiation with CKYH to establish a new alliance. As the negotiation is continuing and no agreements have been signed yet, we are unable to confirm whether Evergreen Line will become a new member of the alliance.”
Carrier alliances are in flux. The industry is waiting for regulators in Europe, the U.S. and China to decide on a plan by the three largest container ship lines – Maersk Line, Mediterranean Shipping Co. and CMA CGM – to form a new P3 alliance. Meanwhile, the G6 alliance has announced a major expansion of its east-west services.
