CMA CGM Christens Flagship

CMA CGM christened its gigantic flagship CMA CGM Christophe Colomb in ceremonies in Le Havre July 12.

The French carrier took delivery of the 13,800 TEU vessel last November at a shipyard in South Korea.

It is the first of a series of eight vessels named after great explorers. CMA CGM said it is the largest containership ever to sail under the French flag.

The ship will eventually be deployed on the FAL 5 (French Asia Line), which calls at the following ports: Ningbo, Shanghai, Yantian, Tanjung Pelepas, Port Kelang, Le Havre, Hamburg, Rotterdam and Zeebrugge.

The CMA CGM Christophe Colomb was christened by Christine Lagarde, France’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Industry and Employment.

“I’m very pleased to be godmother to the new flagship of the CMA CGM Group fleet in Le Havre, a city that is particularly dear to me,” said Lagarde. “The CMA CGM Christophe Colomb is a source of pride for France and I hope that she will long rule the waves.”
