APL Ltd. was chosen as the top carrier for the second consecutive year in the Agriculture Transportation Coalition's annual survey of ocean carrier performance.
The survey polls members of AgTC on carrier performance in the area of documentation. Agricultural shippers judge carriers on their filing of timely and accurate bills of lading.
The survey takes on added significance this year in light of the shortage of vessel space, lack of equipment, an increase in rolled or cancelled bookings, involuntary rate increases and surcharges imposed during the life of the contract, AgTC stated.
"The objective of the AgTC Ocean Carrier Performance survey is to recognize those carriers who consistently perform well, and to incent the others to focus their company, personnel and resources to doing better," the organization said.
Hamburg Sud was in second place and Orient Overseas Container Line ranked third in the 2010 survey.
