JOBLESS RATE DIPS IN HONG KONG

The Hong Kong seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for the September-to- November quarter was 1.9 percent, down from 2.2 percent in the June-to- August quarter, the Census and Statistics Department said.

Seasonally adjusted unemployment for the quarter ended Nov. 30, 1990 was 1.4 percent, the department said in a statement. The number of unemployed in the quarter ended Nov. 30 was estimated at 53,400, up from 39,500 in the same period of 1990, but down from 61,700 in the three months ended August 31, the department said.

"The steady decrease in the unemployment rate since the middle of last year indicated that conditions in the labor market had tightened up again in recent months," it said. The tight labor market has been a major cause of Hong Kong's double-digit inflation.
