Illinois Soybean Growers Talk Strategy With Asian Carriers

Several Illinois Soybean Association directors and staff recently traveled to Asia to promote the state’s transportation system and discuss ways to improve shipping the state’s soybeans to customers worldwide.

The group included Ron Kindred, ISA Marketing Committee chairman and soybean farmer from Atlanta, Ill.; Bill Wykes, ISA chairman and farmer from Yorkville, Ill.; Paul Rasmussen, ISA transportation subcommittee vice chairman and farmer from Genoa, Ill.; Mike Levin, director of issues management and analysis; and Scott Sigman, ISA transportation and export infrastructure lead.

The ISA representatives met with global shipping carriers at corporate headquarters in Seoul, South Korea, and Tokyo. ISA is working to increase soybean utilization to 600 million bushels by 2020.
