EPA Awards $30 Million for Clean Diesel Projects

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is awarding $30 million in grants to reduce emissions from existing diesel engines via emission control and idle reduction technologies, cleaner fuels, engine upgrades or replacements and vehicle or equipment replacements.

The EPA’s Diesel Emission Reduction Program will specifically replace or repower older diesel engines on marine vessels, locomotives, buses and trucks, including drayage, long-haul and delivery vehicles.

Funding will be allocated to Alabama State Port Authority to repower two locomotives, Port of Long Beach to replace yard tractors and retrofit gantry cranes and Virginia Maritime Association to repower a tug boat, among other awards.
