EU to Help Fund $3.3 Million Swedish Infrastructure Project

The European Union will co-finance more than €2.5 million (about US$3.3 million) from the TEN-T Programme to improve the maritime infrastructure in Lake Mälaren in Sweden to accommodate larger vessels.

The project aims to increase the role of maritime transport in the area, foster intermodality and relieve congestion on road and rail. The funding will support the necessary studies and documentation needed to obtain a building permit from Swedish authorities.

Once completed, the project will pave the way for the construction phase, which will increase the depth and width of the fairways and the main canal and improve the already existing lock.
