Beat Simon to Take Helm of APL Logistics

NOL Group has appointed Beat Simon president of subsidiary APL Logistics, effective March 1, 2014.

Earlier this year, his predecessor, Jim McAdam, had announced plans to leave; at that time, NOL said McAdam would remain until a successor was named.

“We warmly welcome Beat Simon to the NOL Group. His vast experience in and deep understanding of the industry makes him a perfect fit for this important role,” said Ng Yat Chung, NOL Group president and CEO. “APL Logistics is well-positioned for growth and expansion under his leadership.”

Simon, who has more than 30 years of experience in the logistics industry, joins APL Logistics from Agility, where he has held a variety of senior management positions since 2006, including serving as CEO of Agility Europe. In that capacity, he oversaw the logistics provider’s expansion from 11 to 25 countries in the region through acquisitions and organic growth, NOL said. From 2000 and 2006, Simon fulfilled several roles at global supply chain provider Panalpina, including serving as CEO of Latin America and senior vice president, corporate affairs, in Latin America. Before Panalpina, he spent 18 years at freight forwarder Danzas/DHL, holding positions of increasing responsibility, including country manager for Colombia and Brazil.

APL Logistics achieved a third quarter operating profit of $19 million, with the supply chain management unit’s core EBIT margin staying steady at 5.1 percent, compared to the same quarter last year. At that time, outgoing President McAdam noted that the company had improved its overall margins despite challenging conditions, and that its expansion in emerging markets was on track.
