INDUSTRIAL OUTPUT DOWN IN JAPAN

Japan's seasonally adjusted industrial and mining production index was 94.8 (1990 equals 100) in June, down 0.8 percent from May, the Ministry of International Trade and Industry said Friday.

The decline follows a 0.5 percent month-on-month fall in May.MITI also said its survey showed producers expected output to fall 1.2 percent in July from June, after seasonal adjustment, and then to rise 3.2 percent in August.

The survey polls major makers of 141 key industrial products around the 10th of each month on their production plans for the coming two months.

''Production, which fell for three consecutive months, has been stalling. There are uncertainties on outlook for production, and it is necessary to pay full attention to its moves from now on," MITI said.

MITI's assessment was slightly changed from its May report.
