EX-IM BANK TO OFFER LOANS TO RUSSIANS

The U.S. Export-Import Bank, shifting policy to reflect the demise of the Soviet Union, said it will offer short- and medium-term loans to Russian buyers of U.S. goods.

The bank is "still studying" how to deal with the other 11 former republics of the Soviet Union, an Ex-Im Bank spokeswoman said. Ex-Im Bank has opened its doors in Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania.Under Thursday's action, Ex-Im Bank will offer Russian buyers of U.S. exports short- and medium-term direct loans and guarantees. Buyers will be eligible for Ex-Im Bank programs if the obligor or guarantor of the loan is Rosvneshtorgbank, the Russian Federation's Bank for Foreign Trade, Ex-Im Bank said Thursday.
