NJ GAS UTILITY GETS

OK FOR RATE HIKENEWARK, N.J. - The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities last week approved an average 5.7 percent rate increase for New Jersey Natural Gas Co., Wall Township.

The rate hike is expected to take effect imminently. It will let the company raise an additional $17.3 million in annual revenue.

TO INCREASE RATES

NEWARK, N.J. - Customers of Jersey Central Power & Light Co. will see an

average monthly $1.25 rate increase on their utility bills within a week, the state Board of Public Utilities says.

The company won permission to raise rates by about 2.5 percent to offset increased fuel and energy costs, which rose by about 5 percent over the previous year, a BPU spokesman said.

INDIA BUYS DIESEL

FOR APRIL DELIVERY

SINGAPORE - India Oil Co. bought seven cargoes of diesel for April delivery, sources here say.

One cargo ranges from about 185,000 barrels to 222,000 barrels. Prices ranged from 55.58 cents to 56.23 cents a gallon, c.i.f. Bombay.

Two cargoes each were bought from a national oil company and a trader. The rest were bought from a European independent and two Western traders, including a Turkish company, which is a newcomer to the region's market.
