Damco, the logistics arm of the A.P. Moller-Maersk Group, will manage Marks & Spencer’s mainland China hub operation, as the British retail giant diverts cargo from its U.K. network to international hubs.
About 5 million items from Southeast Asia vendors are shipped annually to M&S international stores, including franchise and joint ventures, Denmark-based Damco said.
M&S’s hub was moved from Hong Kong to mainland China to tap the growth of Chinese retail business and gain cost efficiencies. Through a separate contract, Damco handles M&S’s Asia-UK supply chain management operations.
