MEXICO LISTS 1.8 PERCENT RISE

IN ITS CONSUMER PRICESMEXICO CITY - Mexican consumer prices rose 1.8 percent in March over February, taking the inflation rate to 8.9 percent for the first three months of 1990, the Bank of Mexico said Teusday.

The inflation rate for tha 12 months ended Maech 31 was 22.3 percent up

from 19.3 percent at the end of March 1989 when the accumulated inflation for the three-month period was 4.9 percent. The bank said the March inflation figures showed the end of an inflationary bubble thath began in December.

From December through March, inflation, as measured by the consumer price index, had run.

MACHINERY ORDERS

RISE BY 7.9 PERCENT IN JAPAN

TOKYO - Private machinery orders received in February increased 7.9 percent from January to 983.1 billion yen ($6.2 billion), the Economic Planning Agency said Tuesday.

The orders, excluding shipbuilding orders and those from power companies, were up 24.5 percent on a year earlier.

Overall machinery orders in February rose 11.6 percent over January and 29.4 percent from a year earlier to total 2,059.8 billion yen, the agency said.

INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION

RISES 1.4 PERCENT IN CHINA

HONG KONG - China's industrial output rose 1.4 percent to 159.9 billion yuan ($33.9 billion) in March from a year earlier, reversing the downtrend of the previous two two months, the China Daily newspaper reported Tuesday.

But Chinese economists warned that industrial production, dogged by low economic efficiency, still faced a "serious" future, the English-langua ge daily said.

KOREA BUILDING PERMITS

SHOW A 75 PERCENT INCREASE

SEOUL, South Korea - South Korea issued permits in February for construction totaling 6.865 million square meters, up 75 percent from a year earlier, the Ministry of Construction said Tuesday.

Construction permits for residential purposes in February rose 124.8 to 3.543 million square meters, or 37,134 households, from a year ago.

Construction permits for business and industrial purposes rose 49.2 percent and 27.8 percent to 2.227 million square meters and 731,000 square

meters, respectively, from a year ago.
