ONTARIO LAWMAKER SEEKS

UNIFORM GASOLINE PRICING

TORONTO - Gasoline prices that fluctuate from one part of Ontario to another or go up just before weekends are the target of a private member's bill proposed by an Ottawa Liberal.

Bob Chiarelli said his bill would require oil companies to charge uniform prices across the province or justify any regional differences to a review board.

The bill would also protect employees who come forward with information about any gasoline-price fixing.

Prices are often higher in eastern and northern Ontario than in Toronto, Mr. Chiarelli said.

He said that private members' bills rarely pass but he hopes his provokes public debate and puts pressure on the new Conservative government to introduce similar measures.

NEVADA POWER EXPANDS

SOLAR ENERGY TESTING

LOS ANGELES - Nevada Power Co. will give solar energy technology a boost as a result of its partnering initiatives through the Corporation for Solar Technology and Renewable Resource, the utility said.

''This is a great opportunity for NPC to further the development of solar technology and push it to new levels of maturity," said Nevada Power's director of system planning, Matt Davis. "Nevada can provide one of the most ideal environments as a natural test bed because of abundant solar resource and vacant land."

Through a proposal submitted to the non-profit renewable energy group, Nevada Power would lead a team effort to deploy a 20-megawatt concentrator solar generating system in Southern Nevada.
