POLICE PROWL FOR DRUGS

AT LONDON EXCHANGECity of London police carried out a search of the premises of the London International Financial Futures Exchange following the discovery of a small amount of "class B controlled drugs," a class that includes cannabis, a police spokesman said.

The search - conducted on Monday - was made at the request of Liffe after an exchange security officer found drug residues.

Following the search, the police arrested a self-employed male trader. The man was cautioned but not charged.

The police search did not uncover any more drugs.

INDIAN SODA-ASH MAKER

TO EXPAND CAPACITY

BOMBAY, India - Tata Chemicals Ltd., India's leading soda-ash maker, has unveiled a 4.5-billion-rupee ($132 million) plan to expand production capacity.

The plan includes doubling production capacity of urea and ammonia fertilizers at its recently commissioned plant at Babrala in the northern Uttar Pradesh state, Chairman Ratan Tata said.

Babrala has an installed capacity of 742,500 metric tons a year.

The expansion will be completed within the next three to four years, Tata told shareholders at the company's annual meeting here.
