Rhone-Poulenc Net

Up 17.5 percent in 1987France's state-owned chemicals group Rhone-Poulenc reported 1987 net income of 2.36 billion French francs (about $412 million), up 17.5 percent

from 1986. Sales increased 6.6 percent in value to 56.2 billion francs, Chairman Jean-Rene Fountou said.

Although sales rose 1.8 percent in volume, this was mostly due to consolidation of recent acquisition, including the agrochemicals division of the U.S. group Union Carbide acquired in 1986. This enables the group to offset the dollar's fall, Mr. Fourtou said.
