SEATTLE-NAIROBI FLIGHT

SET MARK, BOEING SAYSA Boeing 767 arrived in Nairobi Sunday after a record-setting flight from Seattle, covering 9,253 statute miles in 18 hours, 29 minutes, Boeing Commercial Airplane Group said Tuesday.

The new 767-200ER airplane was in the yellow and white colors of Royal Brunei Airlines, national carrier of the country of Brunei Darussalam.

Pending final verification, the National Aeronautic Association established the flight as a world distance record for twin-engine commercial airliners, eclipsing the previous record, also held by a Boeing 767, of 8,893 statute miles.

Powered by Pratt & Whitney PW4056 engines, the airplane is outfitted for extra-long-range service such as trans-Pacific routes.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The County of Sacramento Department of Airports said monthly shipments of air cargo at Metro Airport reached an all-time high of over 4.1 million pounds in April, nearly 25 percent over the 3.3 million pounds shipped in March, and a 94 percent jump over April of last year.

Federal Express Corp. shipped over half of all air cargo during the month, more than 2.3 million pounds. This is an increase of 65 percent over March and is attributed to the arrival of many large corporations, especially computer and technical firms, in the Sacramento area.
