US shippers are playing a direct role in keeping the for-hire truck market soft as they tactically shift freight to in-house fleets, according to Cass Freight Index.
The apparent lifeline comes after port officials announced in April that container service at Portland would end in October due to growing financial losses and the inability to find a third-party operator to take over Terminal 6.
The railroad is tackling one of the major pain points at the Atlanta-area terminal after congestion had gotten so bad in recent years that fleets would pay drivers extra just to go into the facility.
