The Port of Seattle Commission <a>has approved a 25-year program</a> intended to help create 100,000 new jobs in the Puget Sound and Washington state region while reducing the port’s environmental impact. Goals of the Century Agenda include positioning the region as a leading Northwest logistics hub, promoting the region as an international tourist and business destination, establishing an educational consortium to promote economic growth and fostering efforts to make the port energy efficient. The port congestion in Asia and North America that compromised vessel on-time performance during the pandemic began to ease last fall with declining cargo volumes, and the reliability improvements have accelerated since. 

The carrier's CEO said inflation and destocking in global markets heralded a “phase of normalization” for container shipping.

The ruling could place an additional burden on US chassis manufacturers to ensure their subcontractors are using US materials or paying duties on parts from China.
