<div><p>Shippers are increasingly turning to roll-on/roll-off (ro/ro) carriers to transport containers and noncontainerized goods amid a persistent lack of capacity on container ships and sky-high spot rates. </p><p>A similar <a>“spillover” of traditional containerized cargo to breakbulk and multipurpose vessels</a> has been <a>ongoing for nearly a year</a>, and now, lower-than-expected volumes of automobiles — approximately 1 million cars below forecast for 2022, according to IHS Markit — have opened more opportunities for shippers to scoop up unused ro/ro space.
