Amtrak's Future

Kudos to Byron Boyd for his thoughtful commentary on Amtrak in the Jan. 28 issue. While I am an infrequent Amtrak passenger, I have ridden many of the long distance routes as well as the Northeast Corridor over the past 10 years. And, as most folks who have actually spent time on a passenger train can attest, clearly there is a desire by the public to have a safe and efficient national rail passenger system. I believe Mr. Boyd's suggestion of a rail industry summit to address Amtrak's future would be far more beneficial to our national transportation system than the recommendations of the Amtrak Reform Council.
