AMTRAK ATLANTIC CITY RIDERSHIP UP

Ridership along Amtrak's 11-month-old Atlantic City line is up, an Amtrak official told a congressional panel.

"The trend of ridership to Atlantic City in the past four months has shown encouraging signs," said William Norman, executive vice president of the national passenger railroad.Speaking during a hearing last Thursday before a Senate transportation subcommittee, Mr. Norman said better connections to Harrisburg, Pa., extended service from Richmond, Va., and the addition of an extra Saturday train from Washington attested to the improving health of the line. Amtrak also added extended service from New Haven, Conn., last year.
