Emery Air Narrows

First Quarter Net LossWILTON, Conn. - Emery Air Freight Corp. narrowed its first quarter net loss to $13.9 million on revenue of $323.6 million.

This compares a net loss of $18.4 million on revenue of $358 million reported in the same quarter a year ago. The 1988 results include a gain of $4.8 million related to the sale of property.

Emery said comparisons with the 1987 first quarter are not meaningful since the 1987 period doesn't include results for Purolator Courier Corp.

America West Loss

Widened in 1st Quarter

PHOENIX, Ariz. - America West Airlines said its first quarter loss widened to $16.3 million on revenue of $170.7 million, compared with a loss of $5.9 million on revenue of $118.3 million, in the 1987 period.

The 1988 results include a $2.6 million gain from the sale of three 737-200 aircraft.

Harper Group Income

Rises in First Quarter

SAN FRANCISCO - The Harper Group Inc. reported first quarter income of $2.5 million, or 27 cents a share, on revenue of $64.3 million.

In the same period in 1987, Harper earned $1.6 million, or 18 cents a share, on revenue of $46.1 million.

Harper Group subsidiaries include Circle Airfreight Corp., an international airfreight forwarder and Harper, Robinson & Co., an ocean freight forwarder and customs brokerage.
