Atlas Air Worldwide names Erickson CEO

Jeffrey H. Erickson, president of Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings, has been given the additional title of chief executive officer.

He replaces John Blue, who served as acting chief executive since last March when the board of directors fired Richard Shuyler.

Erickson's appointment took effect Jan. 30, the day Atlas filed for bankruptcy protection, but was not announced until Wednesday.

Blue, who had served as Atlas's president from the air cargo carrier's inception in 1992 until 1995, will remain a board member.

Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings is the parent of Atlas Air, which operates on behalf of other carriers, and Polar Air Cargo, which serves freight forwarders.

Erickson, who joined the holding company in 2002, is a former president and chief executive of Trans World Airlines.

"Jeff's leadership and knowledge of the airline business have contributed greatly to the company's ability to develop a solid restructuring plan and to

achieve a largely pre-negotiated Chapter 11 filing," Chairman Linda

Chowdry said. "His experience helping TWA emerge from bankruptcy successfully will be invaluable when AAWH emerges from Chapter 11 protection later this year," added Chowdry, widow of the company's founder, Michael Chowdry.
