Amerijet expands in Mexico

Amerijet International on Monday expanded its Mexican operations with twice-weekly flights to Ciudad del Carmen, the Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based cargo carrier announced.

Ciudad del Carmen is located in the Gulf of Campeche off the northern coast of Mexico. Amerijet also serves Mexico City, Cancun and Merida.

The flights will operate Mondays and Thursdays.

Ciudad del Carmen, a small town historically known for its fishing and shrimp business, has become important in recent years to the oilfield exploration industry, with several offshore oilfield projects underway and growing interest in the region, said Pamela Rollins, Amerijet's vice president of business development.

Other oil-related cities served by Amerijet include Houston, Merida and New Orleans. Besides serving the oil industry, the new service will support growth of the local fishing industry and other businesses in Ciudad del Carmen, Rollins said.

Accion Logistica Integral S.C. serves as Amerijet's local agent.
