JOC Senior Editor William B. Cassidy met with Overnite Transportation founder J. Harwood Cochrane and UPS Freight President Jack Holmes in June to talk about Cochrane’s life in trucking. In this video, the first of a series drawn from their conversation, Cochrane and Holmes discuss the early days of trucking in the Great Depression. Cochrane began his career in 1928 hauling milk with horse and wagon and moved up to a truck in 1930. He hauled all types of freight before starting Overnite in 1935. Contact William B.
