Dennis Rochford explains how the $285 million project to deepen the Delaware River from 40 to 45 feet by 2015 will bring new cargo into the ports along the Delaware River. The deepening of the Delaware River channel along 101 miles up to Philadelphia is generating new terminal projects at the ports of Philadelphia, Wilmington and Paulsboro, NJ. In Philadelphia, Ports America and SSA are negotiating with the Philadelphia Regional Port Authority to build a new container terminal at Southport on the former Philadelphia Navy Yard. The South Jersey Port Corp. is building a new container/breakbulk terminal in Paulsboro. In Wilmington, Kinder Morgan is in negotiations to build a new container/breakbulk terminal with the Port of Wilmington on the existing port footprint and to extend it farther out into the river.
