Larry Gross, a 42-year veteran of the freight transportation sector, is president and founder of Gross Transportation Consulting of Durango, Col., an independent consulting practice specializing in freight transportation matters. As an acknowledged expert on the intermodal sector, Larry is quoted often in the press and makes frequent appearances before the transportation community, including the “Intermodal Analyzed” webinar series for the Intermodal Association of North America (IANA). He produces Intermodal in Depth, a monthly analytical report on the intermodal sector, and authors a monthly column for the Journal of Commerce. He has played a key role in the creation of educational content for students studying supply chain management as the author of numerous business case studies, many of which have been used over the years in the “IANA Academic Challenge” competition.

Lars Jensen, CEO of Vespucci Maritime, is the container shipping industry’s most well-known analyst and thoguht leader. Prior to his consultant work, Lars worked a dozen years with Maersk including six years as chief analyst. Lars was authored the book “Liner Shipping 2025” which to a significant degree predicted many of the changes currently gathering pace in the industry and how carriers, terminals, ports, shippers, and forwarder should navigate these changes to emerge successfully. Lars is director and co-founder of LinerGame which provides a hands-on training game teaching the workings of the container shipping sector using models made from Lego bricks. Lars co-founded Sea-Intelligence in 2011, and then later founded SeaIntelligence Consulting in 2013. In 2021 SeaIntelligence Consulting changed name to Vespucci Maritime. Prior to entering the container shipping industry, Lars Jensen completed a Ph.D. on complex mathematical analysis in physics, as well as worked with technological innovation and modelling in the oil and gas industry.

Jeremy Masters is managing director of Shipping Masters Hong Kong, a consultancy for ports, beneficial cargo owners and non-vessel operating common carriers. He spent a large part of his more than four decades in the container shipping industry working in senior trade and regional positions for ocean carriers, as well as general management and procurement for NVOs. He is intimately familiar with the evolution of containerized shipping and offers perspective on how some of today’s issues have developed. Active daily with ocean carriers both as a front-line client and supplier he has a ring side view of the tussle between carriers, their clients and their suppliers and the ways those interactions can be most productive.

John McCauley started his more than four decade-long year career in container shipping working for ANL some 13 years. He held roles at Royal Mail, pharmaceutical and biotech company GSK, and then United Arab Shipping Co. McCauley joined Cargill in 2007 as vice president of bulk operations, managing more than 600 vessels fleet on time and voyage charter. He moved to the container sector with Cargill in 2013 as vice president of container operations. His final role before semi-retirement was leading an SAP implementation. McCauley consults for shippers and is a visiting lecturer to the masters program at the University of Aix-Marseille and occasionally to the masters program of the University of Geneva.

Jason Miller is an associate professor of supply chain management at Michigan State University's Eli Broad College of Business. He specializes in synthesizing economic data to inform freight industry practitioners about future market conditions. He teaches graduate-level courses on distribution fulfillment and integrated logistics systems. In addition to his industry-focused writing, he has published over 40 peer-reviewed academic articles on various topics including transportation, retailing, research methodology, and statistics.

Paul Tonsager is the founder and principal of IMS Advisory, a consulting practice specializing in rail, intermodal, ocean, trucking, and supply chain technology. With nearly four decades of freight industry experience, he spent 25 years at CN Rail — founding CN Worldwide, opening the railroad's Asia offices, and scaling the business to more than $125 million in revenue. He subsequently served as VP North American Procurement at Maersk, managing a $6 billion-plus portfolio, and has held senior commercial roles at Coyote/RXO and Patriot Rail. Tonsager serves as an LP and strategic advisor at ASC Venture Capital and advises several logistics technology startups. He publishes Signals & Switches, a Substack newsletter on freight and transportation strategy, and is based in Atlantic Beach, Florida.
