Same-Day Delivery Industry to Delivery Its Messages to Federal Legislators

WASHINGTON, D.C., Mar. 1, 2010 -- Members of the same-day delivery industry will give voice to their issues and concerns by visiting Capitol Hill on Thursday, March 25, 2010. That’s the day that the Messenger Courier Association of America (MCAA) sponsors its annual Government Affairs Lobby Day.

For the past three years, MCAA’s members have brought their issues, concerns and need for action to their representatives in Washington. “This year, it is particularly important that we make our voices heard on Capitol Hill,” says MCAA president, Michael Gualtieri. “Members of Congress need to hear about the negative effects of losing the safe hard provision (IRS Section 530). Currently two bills, HR3408 and S2882 are pending that could make drastic changes to the safe harbor provision as well as impose severe penalties for independent contractor misclassification. Our members will want to explain their concerns about these bills, especially to the legislators who introduced these bills, Congressman James McDermott and Senator John Kerry. We urge anyone with a business interest in the same-day delivery industry to register and participate in these efforts to tell our story on Capitol Hill.”

The day will start with presentations by expert speakers who will offer legislative and regulatory updates and briefings. In the afternoon, MCAA members will hold scheduled meetings with key congressional members from their states. The day will conclude with a debriefing session at the Hyatt Regency Washington.

Reservations to participate in the event and sign up to visit individual legislators will be available March 19th. To register, contact John Ferraro at 202-207-1121 or jferraro@kellencompany.com.
