Roberts Europe achieves 5.1% reduction of CO2 emission by successful

JOC Staff |
Maastricht-Airport (NL) - Roberts Europe achieved a relative reduction
of 5.1% in CO2 emission of its total Europe-wide Premium Freight driven
kilometres during 2009. This is the conclusion of the independent party
that has been analyzing the data by order of Roberts Europe, one of the
Dutch award winners of the Lean and Green Award in October 2008. The
award had been granted to Roberts Europe by the Dutch Ministry of
Transport and Public Works for the company's initiatives to keep
improving logistic sustainability.

Over the past twelve months Roberts Europe has been monitored on its
carbon footprint according to a defined sustainability index in regard
to its total European Premium Freight volume. Where in 2008 the total
CO2 emission resulted in 462 grams per loaded kilometre, in 2009 Roberts
Europe managed to reduce this level by 5.1% to 438 grams. The vehicle
mix being measured varies from car to tractor-trailers with a standard
CO2 emission of 200 up to 780 grams per loaded kilometre.

'Our target was to achieve a decrease of 4% compared to last year. Our
optimization measures have resulted in an even higher CO2 reduction than
we anticipated', says a delighted Koen Sevriens, Roberts Europe's
manager of Quality and Safety.

The evaluation leading to this result is based on three main factors;
the efficient use of freight capacity in relation to the freight volume
of each shipment, decreasing empty mileage by planning efficiency
improvements realized through an advanced dispatch planning & scheduling
system and the energy-saving qualities of the vehicle types used.

Roberts Europe aims to achieve a total CO2 reduction of 20% by 2012 and
will keep on studying its sustainability measures that affect its mode
of operations and fleet management. Sustainability is part of the
Roberts Europe quality management and company philosophy.
