Operational Risk Management Focus of Houston Conference
October 12, 2010 - In the wake of the Gulf oil spill, the North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA) will be offering a full day conference on Operational Risk Management, focusing on the need for preparedness, response, remediation and results. The conference will take place on October 29th at the Houston Hyatt Regency commencing at 0900. Conference registration and coffee begin at 0800.
NAMEPA Founding Chairman, Clay Maitland, will open the conference with an overview of “Risk Patterns and Profiles in the Maritime Industry”, followed by District 8 Commander RADM Mary Landry of the United States Coast Guard who will provide an “Anatomy of a Response: the Deepwater Horizon”. Panels on Preparedness, the three “R’s” (Response, Remediation and Results), and a Roundtable on “Moving Forward” will follow. Key participants include Robert Somerville, CEO ABS; Captain Marcus Woodring, Commander Sector Houston-Galveston; Mauricio Garrido, T&T Bisso; Dave Westerholm, NOAA; Dr. Quenton Dokken, Gulf of Mexico Foundation; and RADM Duncan Smith (Ret.), Blank Rome LLP/LLC.
The luncheon keynote will be provided by RADM Peter V. Neffenger, Deputy National Incident Commander for the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill response USCG, who will address “Lessons learned from the Deepwater Horizon”.
“NAMEPA designed this conference to be both informative and participatory so that the risk of an event such as the Deepwater Horizon oil spill recurring can be reduced” stated NAMEPA Chairman Clay Maitland. “We must examine the event, the response and the subsequent actions to identify what needs to be done moving forward. The seminar will explore strategies and realities to mitigate future risks.”
