Old Dominion Embarks on Nationwide Truck Tour

JOC Staff |
THOMASVILLE, N.C. (April 14, 2010) – Old Dominion Freight Line Inc. is embarking on a 17-city nationwide truck tour aimed at sharing the company’s history while providing a window into the future.

The 2010 Old Dominion Truck Tour kicks off April 21 at the company’s Greenville, S.C., Service Center and makes stops at company service centers in 14 states throughout the country. The tour concludes Sept. 15 in Charlotte, N.C. The complete schedule is included below.

Each stop on the tour is designed to be a fun, yet educational experience for attendees. The tour’s centerpiece is a customized rolling museum featuring photos and videos from the company’s past and a sneak peek at what lies ahead. At each stop, there will also be games, food, outdoor activities and tours of the service center.

“We developed a nationwide truck tour last year to honor our 75th anniversary with the goal of sharing our unique history – and our vision for the future – with customers and communities throughout the United States,” said Chip Overbey, vice president of national accounts and marketing for Old Dominion. “We have had such an amazing history, and this tour is one small way we can say thank you to the many people who have helped make this ride such an amazing one.”

Old Dominion has grown substantially since Earl and Lillian Congdon founded the company in 1934 with a single truck running between Richmond and Norfolk, Va. While it remains family operated, Old Dominion is a global, publicly-traded company with 210 service centers that directly serves more than 48,000 points.

For the truck tour, the rolling museum is hauled by a custom-built, one-of-a-kind 38-ton, hydraulic-enabled 2009 Freightliner® DD-15™ Cascadia.
